Graphite gaskets – graphite was one of the forerunners in the battle to replace Asbestos for safety reasons. Known as the “DRY LUBRICANT” the solid material is a non metal conductor of electricity. A natural product mined mainly in China and Mongolia. It is a soft product mined in various sizes of flakes, depending on application. It acts as a lubricant and can also operate in temperatures up 750 degrees celsius. Our comprehensive range of graphite products, including graphite gaskets, seals and graphite o rings, consists of pure unreinforced sheet and tape, self adhesive tape. Laminated in a foil or tanged form with a core of various grades of stainless steel including 316 and 304. Also, Nickle Duplex and Super duplex.
The gaskets suit processes that demand high performance at increased temperatures and pressures. In addition, there are several properties which make graphite suitable for high performance gaskets.
Graphite can handle both high and low temperatures, it’s very durable in processes that operate across a wide temperature range. It is corrosion resistant at most temperature and pressures. Furthermore, it is unaffected by pH changes. Additionally it has exceptional mechanical strength when used in gaskets and also excellent resiliency. It is highly compressible and has low creep under pressure or temperature. It also has an unlimited storage life.
Graphite gaskets have become popular in many industries because of the advantages they have over other materials that were previously used in their place. As a result today graphite gaskets have almost replaced other alternatives for example iron, asbestos and metal.
Graphite gasket applications include:
- High and also low temperatures
- Aggressive media
- Low bolt loads
- Hot oil equipment
- Heat exchangers
The gaskets are used in processes which include corrosive media. For example ammonia, hot water, high pressure vapours, ultra-cool liquids and hydrocarbons. As a result this makes them the top choice for heat exchangers, cooling towers and high pressure pipes. J A Harrison provides gaskets fully customised to your dimensional and mechanical requirements.
